How stable is the base on carpet or wood?
The base is 10″ across with good weight, so it stands steady on both. On plush carpet, you might set it slightly back from high-traffic zones — the narrow pole means it can tip if leaned on hard.
Can I use it next to a chair for reading?
Yes. At 64″ tall, the globe sits well above shoulder height when seated, and the frosted glass spreads light wide and soft. It works best if you position it a few feet to your side rather than directly behind the chair.
Does the frosted globe diffuse the light evenly?
It does. The frosted surface scatters the bulb glow so you don’t see a hot spot or filament shadow. For specific bulb wattage and base type, see the Specifications.
Is there a dimmer switch or just on/off?
Check the Specifications for switch details. If you want dimming, a separate in-line dimmer can work with most standard bulbs — ask us about compatible options.
Will the brass neck tarnish or need polish?
The brass has a factory finish that ages naturally over time. It won’t tarnish badly in normal use. A soft dry cloth keeps it looking fresh; polishing is optional depending on how you like patina to develop.
