How stable is this on hardwood or carpet?
The three legs spread wide at the base and brass ferrules grip well. On carpet it sits firm. On smooth floors, the feet don’t slip, but on very polished wood you may want felt pads underneath—we can suggest them if you ask.
Does the light shine down only, or does it scatter sideways?
The brass dome is closed on the sides, so the light pools directly downward and pools a bit up inside the shade. You get a warm glow on what’s below—good for reading or a side table—but not general room light. It’s a task and accent piece.
What bulb does it take and how bright?

Is the shade removable for cleaning?
Yes. The dome unscrews from the stem, so you can dust it inside and out easily. The brass will patina over time with use—some people like that aged look, others polish it back.
How much floor space do the legs need?
The footprint is roughly 24″ across (60 cm) at the widest point. Tight, but you’ll want a little clearance so the legs don’t interfere with feet when you’re sitting close by. It works well beside a chair or at the end of a sofa.
